10 Ways Yoga is valuable to you
Yoga benefits your body, mind and inner self – It will help you to tone and strengthen your body. While the gym also brings a physical benefit, only yoga fosters additional mental and spiritual clarity and energy.
Yoga improves you inside and out – While the gym will help your cardio and muscle strength, it does not provide the detoxing effects of yoga. Through stretching and twisting, these practices benefits the digestive system, circulatory system and lymph system.
Yoga encourages acceptance – Forget punishing boot camp style classes and feelings of failure if you couldn’t keep up. Yoga is about acceptance – you’re perfect the way you are. Not only will you develop your core and tone your muscles, but you’ll learn self-acceptance too.
Yoga can assist you to be more toned – If you’re looking for a calming and rejuvenating way to improve your body, this is ideal. Leave the bulky weights at the gym and allow your body to become stronger and leaner through soothing stretches.
Yoga is a more efficient workout – While the gym provides a range of machines and equipment to tone your body, these isolate muscles. Our full body workout uses all your muscle groups, leading to more efficient results.
Yoga is kinder to your body – Don’t confuse kindness with weakness though. The practice is intense, building heat and working muscles. But through a gentle and full body workout you avoid the stress and pressure that lifting weights can place on joints.
Yoga relieves aches and pains – There’s a good chance you’ll leave the gym feeling stiff and sore. Slow stretching improves your flexibility and opens your energy channels. The result? Aches and pains drain away.
Yoga improves your breathing – A high energy gym workout will leave you breathless. In contrast, you’ll learn the skill of controlled breathing. In times of stress the ability to think clearly and breath deeply can help you remain calm.
Yoga is calming – Forget grunting, groaning and the sound of heavy weights. Our classes involve the release of tension across body and mind in a serene environment that is welcoming and calming.
Yoga is for everyone – The gym isn’t for everyone whereas our studio is. From those with health concerns or chronic pain, expecting mothers, to those with mobility concerns, it is inclusive and welcoming for all.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does ‘Yoga’ mean?
Yoga is a Sanskrit word that means to ‘yoke’ or ‘to unite’. While the term is typically used to refer to the stretches and postures in actuality it refers to integrating mind, body and inner self.
How often should I practice?
The benefits of yoga are more quickly experienced with daily practice. Less than 10 minutes a day is do-able. Begin with a consistent schedule of 9 minutes and 59 seconds. The more you practice, the better you will feel, and the more you will want to practice! Learn to do bandha locks before breakfast as a pre breakfast entree. It will take one minute and can improve your digestion. Practise the breathing techniques during the day when you have a spare quiet minute. Do a few asana postures when you return home from work and lie down to practise yoga nidra meditation. When you commit to this schedule for two weeks practising becomes a part of your lifestyle.
I can’t touch my toes. Is yoga for me?
Absolutely! Yoga is an inclusive practice. We all harbour the same worries and fears about what we cannot do, and while we all come in different shapes and sizes, yoga assists us in finding balance mentally, physically and spiritually. You’ll be surprised at the improvement in your flexibility, strength and general vitality after a few classes.
Where do I book?

It’s that simple.

Can yoga help me lose weight?
There are many styles of yoga with different health goals attached. The style, frequency and intensity of your schedule will go towards your weight loss goals. Yoga can be an aerobic workout that burns calories though guided poses and stretching, however, a major factor in weight loss is learning how to de-stress. Mukti Freedom Yoga will assist in finding this deep relaxation and sound sleep at home.
Yoga practise fosters a perspective centred around balance, healing and connection. As you take your improved well being from the mat into your everyday life, the healthy choices you make can further contribute to your weight loss goals.
Do I need to bring anything?
We want you to travel light – mentally, emotionally and physically. If you don’t have a mat for your first class, one will be available.
It is recommended you bring your own towel, mat, cushion and water-bottle to your regular class. This also will encourage you to ‘snack on yoga’ at home and use the skills gained through Mukti Freedom Yoga in your own daily routine.
Can I eat before class?
We recommend avoiding large meals within 2-3 hours of a class. If you have to eat before your class, a light snack or an easily digested meal is suitable.
What do I wear to a class?
Wear loose or stretchy, comfortable clothing. Whatever you wear, your clothing needs to allow ease when you bend and stretch forwards, backs and sideways. Tight jeans and belts are unsuitable. Yoga is about comfort and acceptance. Practice yoga in whatever clothes feel most comfortable to you! The room temperature is set between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius. It is cooled in summer and heated in winter. Shoes are left at the front door. Excess jewellery will disturb your practice. Please refrain from wearing strong perfumes. And turn your mobile phone to silent or aeroplane mode without vibration once you arrive. Thank you.
